Charity donations for the earthquake victims in Haiti
Ladies and gentlemen, Brothers and sisters,
a short time ago, a literally earth shattering catastrophe hit the Republic of Haiti on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea, on of the poorest countries in the world and definitely the poorest in the western world.
About 100,000 people lost their lives, even more their health, houses and all they had – and for many of them, that was few enough.
I think it is not necessary to describe the situation, as all of us are familiar with that due to the pictures on TV.
The world responded quickly and sent medical staff, pharmaceutics and foodstuffs, spent money and so on.
Nevertheless, as we all know, such a help does not reach all people – and very often not those who really need it. And, what it is more, in such a situation you can never have enough money to ease the worst cases at least.
The European Board decided to send an appeal for money to all chapters of the European Conference but wanted to make sure that the money collected would arrive at it’s destination for 100%, without any costs for administration.
We succeeded in such a mission a few years ago when on Christmas that tsunami hit Southeast Asia.
At that time, we took use of a contact Karlo, the President of BK Germany III (Hamburg) has in Thailand and the money reached the destination for 100%. It was impressing what was done with it at that time.
Unfortunately, we do not have such a direct contact in Haiti as well as we – of course – do not have any Blue Knights there or in the Dominican Republic which covers the other half of the island. International could not help us as well.
On the meeting of the European Board last weekend in Hamburg, we decided unanimously the following:
The European Board strongly recommends to endorse a project brought into being by Kurt Schön, member of Blue Knights Germany XII (Saarland) and encourages the European chapters to take part with a charitable donation!
The project is the following:
Kurt and his wife have contacts to Dominicana. There in Santo Domingo lives a Haitiana named Marietta Cade who is 41 years old. Her family lived in Carrafour where more then 80% of the houses were destroyed, also the house of her parents. They have absolutely NOTHING anymore. In that house lived also two of her brothers and her 18-year-old daughter Volibe. Her brother Jabi passed away on January 21, 2010 due to the injuries he suffered during that earthquake. Her other brother, Louis, lost one of his legs. Her daughter is a missing person. Her parents managed to reach a bus to Santo Domingo. Presently, they live there on 40 square meters with three adults and two small children.
Kurt wants to raise fund exclusively for this family and guarantees that every single Cent will reach the addressees. He and his wife will fly to Dominica on March 9, 2010 and will pass on the money collected to the family.
If you would like to take part in that action, send your money to
